A real prize item in our vast collection of football memorabilia, this is the World Cup Winner’s medal awarded to Brazilian striker Amarildo Tavares da Silveira, known as Amarildo for short.
He was the first Brazilian to score in their 3 – 1 win in Santiago against Czechoslovakia, playing as a replacement for the injured Pele. His playing career lasted until 1974, and club wise he played both in Brazil with the likes of Flamengo and Botafogo, as well as in Italy with AC Milan, Fiorentina and Roma.
In 2008 he was hired at as the coach of América in Rio de Janeiro, who lost their first game 4 – 2. He was sacked again just a week later.
