This fantastic looking medal was awarded to Accrington Stanley’s R. Rawcliffe after the reserve side won the West Lancashire Football League in the 1922/23 season.
Stanley were formed in 1891, but the original club collapsed in 1966. The current re-incarnation of the side was formed two years later in 1968, and they moved in to The Crown Ground in 1970.
Update – Thanks to Mark Bray, who told us that Roland Rawcliffe was born in Accrington in 1900, playing for Stanley between 1922 and 1924. He only played one first team match, against Crewe on 8th December 1923.
