Here we have another medal from the recently acquired Jimmy Ashcroft collection, made by Vaughtons in Birmingham.
In February 1907, then Arsenal keeper Ashcroft featured in a George Robey XI in a charity match against Aston Villa.
Robey was one of the top performers on the music hall scene in the late 19th and early 20th century, and as a keen amateur sportsman he put on a number of charity football matches for various causes. Ashcroft was one of several Arsenal players to feature at one of these games.
In 1903, Robey was even signed by Millwall as an inside forward, and he continued to play as an amateur well into his 50s!
