On 21st October 1953 the FA celebrated it’s 90th birthday by staging an England v Rest of the World match at Wembley.
Here we have the cap awarded the Sir Alf Ramsey, along with the badge from his matchworn international shirt.
England were 4 – 3 down going into the final throws of the game when Partizan Belgrade’s Zlatko Cajkovski brought down Stan Moretensen inside the area. Up to that point the Rest of the World had played some superb football for a squad that only came together a few days earlier.
Ramsey stepped up to the spot and scored in the 90th minute of the game to rescue England. Some reports seem to suggest that he missed an earlier penalty which may have changed the flow of the game completely.
