He was capped six times between 1888 and 1894, and scored one goal for the national side.
Hodgetts received several medals during his career with Villa, winning the league and FA Cup multiple times. As the landlord of the The Salutation in Snow Hill following his football career, the medals were all stolen. Although not recovered at the time, the two men found guilty of the theft were given 6 months hard labour.
