This letter, signed by Theo Kelly, was sent to Everton player Jimmy Cunliffe in 1946 as the team prepared to re-group after World War Two.
Cunliffe is shown as living at Scot Lane in Blackrod, located between Wigan and Bolton. Unfortunately, they’ve spelled Chorley wrong… that’s the problem with typewriters!
Although we don’t have a copy of his reply, Cunliffe didn’t player for Everton again after 1939 when he fell down the pecking order in the run up to the war – but the club clearly were ready to welcome him back to the squad in 1946 none the less.
