Dennis Tueart joined Manchester City in 1974, and scored a spectacular overhead kick in the ’76 League Cup final to help his side lift the trophy – voted the greatest moment of all time in the competition in a recent poll.
In 1977, Tueart signed a new three year contact starting at £250 per week (see top left image) but at the end of the the 77/78 season he headed for New York Cosmos.
In 1980, Tueart re-signed for City (see middle image) on a much improved £465 per week – £65 more than if he’d seen through his ’77 contact to the end of that calendar year – so possibly a shrewd bit of business heading to the USA for two years, although he did miss out on £25,000 of end of season loyalty bonuses during that time with City.
In 1981, his contract was renegotiated again (see top right and bottom left images) for £600 per week – and Tueart remained with the club until 1984.
Tueart was a director at City after retiring as a player, but was sacked when Shinawatra took over in 2007.
