The 1939 FA Cup final was contested by Portsmouth and Wolves at Wembley Stadium, in front of a crowd of almost 100,000 football fans.
The last pre-World War Two final was won comfortable by Portsmouth, who were 3 – 0 up just after the start of the second half.
Dicky Dorsett gave Wolves a glimmer of hope in the 54th minute, but Cliff Parker’s second goal in the 71st minute saw Pompey win 4 – 1.
