Tottenham star and Scotland international John White was just 27 years old when he was killed by a lightening strike whilst sheltering under a tree at Crews Hill golf course in Enfield.
Later that year a Tottenham XI featuring his younger brother Tom played a Scotland XI at White Hart Lane in his memory.
The game was supposed to be played on 10th November, but was postponed due to heavy fog. It eventually took place a day later.
John’s brother Tom scored the first goal of the game courtesy of a Jimmy Greaves pass, but Spurs would go on to lose 6 – 2 by the final whistle.
Everything was all square until Scotland scored 4 goals inside 7 minutes late in the second half to romp to victory.
