The 6th staging of the charity shield saw a change in format, as the FA pitched a select professional XI against an amateur side at The Den on 6th october 1913.
All proceeds from the game were donated to the Senghenydd Colliery Disaster Fund, following a mining explosion which killed 440 people and devastated part of the South Wales Valleys.
The professional won the game 7 – 2, with goals for England international stars of the day Harry Hampton , George Holley and Harold Fleming.
Millwall made no claim for expenses for staging the game, so that the maximum amount of funds could be donated to Senghenydd, the UK’s worst ever mining disaster.
