In 1910 Belgium became the first side not to lose against the England amateurs, after a 2 – 2 draw in Brussells.
Two years earlier however, shortly after this itinerary was produced, the Belgians would go on to lose 8 – 2.
Two days later, England would go on to defeat Germany 5 – 1.
England’s national amateur team was formed in 1906, in response to the growth of the professional game. This had in turn made it harder for amateur players to get a place in the main England squad. In their first ever game, they beat France 15 – 0 and went on to remain unbeaten until 1910 – a run of 20 games in all.
