This Walsall & District medal was awarded to F. Shinton of Bilston Town FC, after the side won the local FA’s Challenge Cup.
The medal is hallmarked ’1908′ although the date of the competition is not engraved on the medal itself.
Former West Brom and Leicester Fosse player Fred Shinton did end his career with the nearby Wednesbury Old Athletic around 1912, and we’d like to thank Frank Heseltine for getting in touch to confirm that Shinton also played for Bilston Town during his time with both Leicester and Wednesbury, at a time when dual signings were still permitted.
Shinton died in 1923 in Wednesbury, aged just 40 following a long illness.
