This menu and event programme was signed by the West Bromwich Albion team of 1931 at a celebratory dinner and presentation following the teams promotion to the English First Division. West Bromwich came second in the table behind Everton, with Reading and Cardiff propping up the opposite end of the table.
That season The Baggies also defeated Birmingham City 2 – 1 in the FA Cup final on 25th April 1931. W G Richardson netted for West Brom in the 25th minute, before Birmingham finally leveled in the 57th minute through Bradford. However Richardson found the net just a minute later to score the decider. There was controversy however at the start of the game when Birmingham’s Bob Gregg scored with his head, only for it to be ruled as offside but the newspapers of the time say otherwise!
That was to be the last time for 42 years that a team outside of the top flight would win the FA Cup, until Sunderland managed to beat Leeds in 1973.
