This is a very rare large postcard measuring 22.5cm x 17.5cm featuring the 1907/8 Leeds City football squad.
This was a promotional giveaway from Lloyd’s Weekly News.
Lloyd’s News was launched in 1842 as a Sunday paper, and folded in 1931 after it was merged into the Sunday graphic.
As for Leeds City FC, they were dissolved in 1919 due to financial irregularities, with players and assets being auctioned off to other clubs. Following their demise, Leeds United came into existence and joined the Football League, although a club using the same name has since been formed back in 2005.
Pictured to the bottom right with the dog is the original secretary Gilbert Gilles, who was also coach and manager from 1904 to 1908.
