This medal was given to former Blackpool and England player Stan Mortensen for his participation in the 1948 Football League v Scottish League match held on 17th March 1948 at St James Park.
The game ended in a 1 – 1 draw, with Mortensen scoring the only goal for the Football League team.
In 1953 Mortensen became the first player to ever score a hat-trick in a Wembley FA Cup final, and also went on to become the first England player to score in a FIFA World Cup qualifier, and in the tournament proper.
