This medal was awarded to Blackpool and England legend Stan Mortensen, who played in the 1949 Football League v Scottish League football match played at Ibrox park in Glasgow in front of 90,000 fans on 23rd March.
On the day the Football League team won comfortably, with Mortensen scoring two goals in a 3 – 0 win.
Mortensen is now commemorated with a statue outside the Blackpool ground on Bloomfield Road. His most famous performance saw him help Blackpool to beat Bolton 4 – 3 in the FA Cup final, after at one point being 3 – 1 down. Mortensen scored a fantastic hat trick, the first player ever to score 3 goals in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
