That year saw Manchester United finish 4th in the First Division, whilst City finished 17th out of 22 clubs in the league.
Wolverhampton Wanderers won the league title that year after over hauling West Bromwich Albion at the top of the table in the final games of the season. Both Liverpool and Middlesbrough were relegated.
