A very rare ‘Pen & Pencil Special’ showing the Blackburn Rovers squad on 3rd October 1889.
The photo inside (click below images to expand) includes William Townley, who would go on to score the first ever FA Cup final hat-trick later that season as the club won the trophy with an emphatic 6 – 1 win.
The photo is also hugely significant to fans of Celtic, as it was taken in front of the original Celtic Park ground when the two sides met in a friendly, which Blackburn lost 1 – 0.
An image of the Celtic squad in the exact same spot has been touted as the first to show them at the original Celtic Park, but until this item emerged recently, there was no evidence to corroborate it!
