This is a signed post match dinner menu, which contains the signatures of the England players who attended the match to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Swiss Football Federation.
Despite Switzerland remaining neutral in world war two, the Football Association was only able to send a team over to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Swiss football federation on 21st July 1945 at the Wankdorfstadion in front of 35,000 spectators. Officially the England team was an FA services eleven, but in reality it contained only three changes from the England team that had played France at Wembley just two months earlier, with only two players making their international debut. One of the two players to make his debut was the late Sir Tom Finney, and other famous names include Tommy Lawton and Laurie Scott. England were unbeaten in almost three years but they were second best on the day, losing 3 – 1 to Switzerland who scored through Fink, Friedländer and Amadò at the home of Grasshopper FC in Bern.
