
An original photograph of Charlton’s Arthur ‘Sailor’ Brown in action in either April or August of 1939.
If you look below, you’ll see two different date stamps on the back of the photograph and questions have been raised since we originally posted this item on the site as to the note on the rear regarding the opponent being Tottenham.
Brown was one of many players who lost some of their best years due to the war, although he did become Aston Villa’s most expensive ever signing in a move from Nottingham Forest worth £10,000 in 1947.
