Here we have a selection of rare Baines football cards from the collection (we have several thousand in our archives) featuring various English and Scottish clubs.
One anomaly is W Ainley of Huddersfield, which research shows is a rugby league card.
Baines did occasionally mix their backgrounds, so it’s not always 100% clear from the image.
One card of note features Celtic maverick Daniel Doyle, who also played for Everton.
At one point he had even agreed a move to both Bolton and Celtic, and was collecting a wage from all three of the clubs at the same time!
