This official expenses receipt has been hand signed by Sir Stanley Matthews.
He was reimbursed a total sum of £14 on 8th June 1951, following a trip to Switzerland.
The club had undertaken a pre-season tour of the country in May, beating St Gallen 2 – 0, Grasshopper 4- 3, Geneva-Zurich 4 – 0 and finally losing to Basel-Zurich 2 – 0.
At the time, players for Blackpool had their wages capped at a maximum of £12 per week – so Mathews spent more than 50% of his weekly wages over the course of the 14 day trip.
