In 1923 they changed their name from Boscombe FC to Bournemouth and Boscombe AFC, and 1924/5 was the club’s second season in the football league, and they initially struggled. Eventually however, they established themselves in the 3rd Division, where they remained for longer than any other club in the league’s history to date.
The club finally changed their name to Bournemouth AFC in 1972.
