This is a Busby Babes rosette purchased at Wembley in 1958, just a few months after the Munich Air Disaster which claimed the lives of a number of talented Manchester United players.
The team recovered well to make the 1958 FA Cup final which they played against Bolton. United lost the final 2 – 0, with the second goal for Bolton proving to be very controversial as Nat Lofthouse was seen the bundle the goalkeeper and ball over the line. This incident was seen as a major contribution to the present day situation where no contact is allowed with the opposition keeper.
