Callaghan still holds the appearance record for Liverpool, with 640 games for the club. He was part of England’s 1966 World Cup squad, but as he wasn’t on the pitch for the final, he only received his medal in 2009 after a campaign led by the FA.
Hughes started at Blackpool, but spent most of his career with Liverpool where he earned his nickname after rugby tackling Newcastle’s Albert Bennett. He eventually became a successful TV pundit with the BBC, and died at the age of just 57 from a brain tumour.
