This is a player itinerary which was provided to one of the members of the Blackpool squad ahead of their FA Cup final clash with Manchester United in 1948.
We also have a ticket for admission to the celebration dinner held at London’s famous Mayfair Hotel later that evening.
Sadly for Blackpool, even with Matthews, Mortensen and Johnston on the field they lost to United 4 – 2. Opening the scoring for Blackpool, Eddie Shimwell became the first full back to score in an FA Cup final that year.
The trio would however taste FA Cup glory in the famous Matthews final of ’53 just 5 years later as they left it late to beat Bolton 4 – 3 at Wembley.
