This set of five medals and a single badge, recently acquired by the collection, came to us direct from the family of John Liddell.
Liddell was a key figure in Scottish football in the late 19th and early 20th century, becoming the president of both the Scottish FA and Queen’s Park FC.
Liddell was elected president of the SFA in 1907, and was in the position during the time of the 1909 Hampden Riot, which saw the 36th Scottish Cup withheld following serious crowd disorder at Hampden after a second score-draw.
He featured as a linesman in several meetings between Scotland and their old rivals England.
Unfortunately the family don’t have any information regarding the presence of the Rangers or Celtic medal in the collection, but if anyone knows, we’d love to hear from you!
