This 1950 FA Cup final medal was awarded to Liverpool stalwart Laurie Hughes, who joined the Anfield side from Tranmere’s youth squad in 1943.
An imposing centre-half, Laurie made his last appearance for Liverpool in 1957, but did not officially retire from the club and football until 1960.
He was part of the side which lost 2 – 0 against Arsenal in the 1950 final, and his medal now resides in our collection along with that of his teammate Willie Fagan.
