This is a rare copy of the Motherwell FC Football Handbook from the club’s 1927/28 season, released in partnership with the Glasgow Evening News.
That season saw a number of the Motherwell squad given a chance at international level, with George Stevenson and goalkeeper Alan McClory both featuring for Scotland that year.
Following the success of their pre-season tour, the board also decided that before the 1928/9 season the club would play a number of fixtures in South America. They even played their final match of the tour against the Brazilian national side, which ended in a 1 – 1 draw. The team then had to be taxied straight from the stadium to the port in their kits so they didn’t miss the boat back home!
