The Norbreck Hydro was a popular hotel with away teams playing matches against Blackpool FC, and still dominates the northern end of the town’s promenade with its castle like facade.
This is a collection of four menus signed by visiting teams during their stay in the 1959/60 football season including:
- Bury FC
- Burnley FC
- Nottingham Forest FC
- Sheffield Wednesday FC
That season the visiting Burnley team won the First Division, one point ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers and six points clear of the Sheffield Wednesday team also featured in this set of memorabilia who came 5th.
Nottingham Forest just avoided relegation finishing a single point ahead of Leeds United who were relegated along with Luton Town.
The Bury FC menu is dated 8th January 1960, the day before they played against Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup drawing 1 – 1 in front of a record home crowd. The game was played at Gigg Lane, and why the team stayed in Blackpool the night before we just don’t know. Perhaps you know and could get in touch to tell us?
