When French third tier side Red Star FC contacted us earlier this month asking if we’d like an example of their latest shirt for the collection, we of course asked if it was possible to have a matchworn example!
As it turns out, things weren’t really as straight forward as they seemed…
The Parisian based side, who play at the Stade Bauer, felt that the idea of a third shirt was really no more than a way to get fans to spend extra cash on another must have item for their kit collection, and definitely not in keeping with the values of this historic football club.
Instead, they’ve produced this tattoo, which is proudly sported by ever growing numbers of passionate, shirtless Third Star fans both home and away. There’s also a large advertising campaign around the ground, and it features a number of fans including Jean, a life-long green and white supporter who has been following the club since 1965. The official launch video (below) also displays some of these familiar faces from the Red Star family….
Red Star FC President Patrice Haddad explained:
“We wanted to send a strong message to our supporters and the world of football in general. Yes, we are a professional club. Yes, we evolve, we develop the club but we do not forget the founding values that are ours. That’s what the Third Shirt says. How to be a football club in 2019 without being cut off from its popular culture.”
We think these would definitely go down well in Newcastle…
