White Hart Lane’s old West Stand was demolished in November 1980 and replaced for the 1981/82 season by a 6,500 seat New West Stand which also included 72 executive boxes.
It was first used against Wolves on 6th February 1982, but such were the overruns in cost during the development that it left Spurs in serious financial difficulties.
This led to directors floating the club on the stock exchange, making Tottenham the first sports club in the world to do so.
