Talbot Wilfrid Ellison was a resident cartoonist with the Birmingham Evening Mail from 1904 to 1947 producing an array of political and sport cartoons for the paper.
The ‘Tottenham Way’ cartoon featured across two columns in the Mail Saturday Sports Final as shown in the footnotes made by a member of staff at the paper, probably prior to publication.
The cartoon was produced for the visit of Birmingham City to Tottenham Hotspur, hence the cockerel in the cartoon. The monkey is implying that the cockerel is a chicken, probably a light hearted jibe towards Tottenham by the Birmingham based paper.
