This contract was signed by pre-war Manchester City left back Frank Norgrove who played for the club from 1904 to 1912.
It offers a fascinating insight into pre-war agreements between clubs and players, at a time when players earned very average money for their time.
This contract secured Norgrove’s services from 1st May 1907 to 30th April 1908, and it was mid way through that year that he dropped out as a first team regular with the blue side of Manchester.
At the time Norgrove was shown to be living at Marland Street in Hyde. For signing the contract Manchester City agreed to pay Frank the handsome sum of £208. The agreement is also signed by Henry James Newbould who was manager of the club at the time and was working to turn around it’s fortunes following the decimation that followed the bribe and illegal payments scandal.
