These autographs belong to the England side who defeated Switzerland 6 – 0 at Highbury on 2nd December 1948.
England Manager Walter Winterbottom handed International debuts (excluding British Championship and wartime friendlies) to Johnny Hancocks, Jack Rowley and Jack Haines – with the trio netting the first 5 of England’s 6 goals.
Hancocks and Rowley both scored in the 65th minute, and Jackie Milburn wrapped it up with the final goal in the 66th minute in front of 48,000 players.
Other signatures include Alf Ramsey and Stanley Matthews.
It’s a very unique item, as the signatures are all on official headed Arsenal FC paper.
This isn’t actually Switzerland’s biggest loss against England to date – they lost a friendly match in June 1963 by 8 goals to 1 in Basel.
