Two years before the tournament was due to start, Chile’s preparations were given a massive setback thanks to a 9.5 magnitude earthquake, which caused huge damage to the countries infrastructure.
The tournament was eventually won by Brazil, who took the trophy courtesy of a 3 – 1 win over Czechoslovakia.
England dropped out in the quarter finals, losing 3 – 1 to Brazil at the Estadio Sausalito in front of a crowd of 17,736.
