The 1960 European Cup Final between Eintracht Frankfurt and Real Madrid is considered by many to be one of the greatest football matches ever played.
The game was played at Hampden Park in Glasgow, and finished 7 – 3 to Real Madrid in front of 127,000 people. The final was also notable as having almost not taken place, after Puskas alleged that the West German international side had used drugs. The German FA banned their sides from playing any team which contained Puskas, but after a formal written apology the final went ahead.
Eintracht briefly went ahead in the 18th minute, but a hat-trick from Di Stefano and a four goal haul from Puskas (it had to be, didn’t it?) did the damage despite two late goals from the Germans. Puskas and Di Stefano became two of only three players to score a hat-trick in a European Cup or Champions League final.
