This is a matchworn #7 Preston North End shirt from the club’s 1986/7 season.
That season Preston were promoted after finishing 2nd in the English Fourth Division, 9 points behind Northampton but 10 ahead of Southend.
Only the year before Preston had finished 2nd from bottom in the Fourth Division, but were saved from relegation after a vote by Football League members.
John McGrath then took over the managers role and completely revitalised the club the following season.
Update – Many thanks to Deane Mahoney, who confirmed that the #7 shirt was worn by Brian Mooney that season.
Mooney was a skillful Irish winger, making 128 appearances for Preston between 1987 and 1991, scoring 20 goals.
