Sailor Brown – FA Cup Final 1946 Runner’s Up Medal

FA Cup medal collector

The first post-WW2 FA Cup final remained goalless until the 85th minute when Bert Turner deflected the ball in to his own net.

A minute later, Turner would score an equaliser for Charlton to take it to extra time, where Derby would then go on to win 4 – 1.

This runner’s up medal was awarded to the late Charlton player Albert ‘Sailor’ Brown who played for the side between 1934 and 1946 before signing for Nottingham Forest.

Like many players of this era, he lost some of his best years to the war, but did feature in several wartime internationals and guested for many sides.

After leaving Forest in 1947, he joined Aston Villa for a club record £10,000, and eventually ended his career as player-manager of Gorleston in his home county of Norfolk.
