Sam “Surefoot” Burnison was one of the youngest players ever to be capped for Ireland, when he appeared against England in February 1908 aged just 17 years and 77 days.
This recently acquired cap comes from Burnison’s second international appearance, against England in February 1910.
At the time, Burnison was a regular for Lisburn Distillery, but he would soon move to England to join Bradford Park Avenue, where he would become the club’s first international.
Just like his brother Joe, Sam captained Distillery to Irish Cup victory,and he would return to play for the club again in 1911/12 before finishing up at Glenavon.
