These two itineraries belonged to former Everton player and trainer Stanley J Bentham – who played on the club’s 1939 tour of Switzerland and Holland, and was part of the team’s coaching staff when they headed for Amsterdam in 1956.
Bentham joined Everton from Wigan Athletic, and played 110 matches scoring 17 goals.
Bentham was just 23 when war broke out, but had reached 30 by the time the league was resumed, missing many of his prime playing years. He retired at the end of the 1947/48 season, and stayed on the coaching staff until 1962 before joining Luton Town in a similar position.
Bentham died in 2002 at the age of 86 after several years of suffering with Alzheimers.
