This cartoon was produced by TW Ellison, the resident cartoonist at the Birmingham Evening Mail between 1904 and 1947.
At the time that the cartoon was published a government committee was conducting an official enquiry into door-to-door charitable collections as explained in the hand written footnotes, and Ellison took the opportunity to make a joke of it with Birmingham City trying to convince Aston Villa to make a donation.
According to the foot notes the match took place at Villa Park, hence why Birmingham City are knocking on the door of their local rivals.
