Another piece of vintage football banter was the ‘Memorial Postcard’ common around the turn of the century in England.
This particular postcard was stamped with the Aston Villa name after they were defeated 3 – 0 by Bury FC in the 1903 FA Cup semi final.
During the most successful period in the club’s history to date, Bury went on to win the final 6 – 0 against Derby County. To this day, the score holds the record for the biggest win in FA Cup history.
Impressively Bury didn’t concede a single goal during the entire competition that season, also beating Wolves, Sheffield United and Notts County en route to the final.
