In April 1907, Everton fans headed to Crystal Palace for a second successive season to watch their team play in the FA Cup final.
The previous season, Alex Young scored a solitary goal that was enough to help The Toffees see off Newcastle United and win the competition for the first time in the club’s history.
A 2 – 1 win for Sheffield Wednesday courtesy of goals from Jimmy Stewart and George Simpson would see Everton become the second winner in the history of the competition to reach the final and fail to defend the cup.
The first club to do so was Old Etonians, who lost to Blackburn Olympic in 1883.
